The High Seas
The High Seas
Build a ship, crew her, arm her and sail her on one ocean shared by every captain on the shard. Everything here is read straight from the game, so the numbers are the ones you sail by.
Ships
Every hull, what she costs to build, her timber and rolls, upgrades, spyglasses and Shipyard fees.
Sailing
The helm and its keys, wind, storms, harbours and town docks, mending at sea, your colours, and fishing with a seine.
Guns & Abilities
Cannons by metal, shot, the Ferryman's rare guns, the twelve ship abilities and how boarding works.
Crew
Where crew come from, their trades and naval ranks, levelling and promotion costs, feeding them, and the Crew Pub.
Foes & Plunder
The monster fleet and where it sails, the pirate crews, The Ferryman, and what every wreck gives up.
The short version
- Where it starts
- The Shipyard button over your own house's yard — a house with open water near it to launch from
- Your first ship
- A Small Boat, built at the Carpentry crafting window (or your house's Crafting Bench) from 2,000 planks and 800 ingots, at 30 Carpentry
- The biggest
- The Britannian Man-o'-War: 12 guns, 5 crew and 2,300 hull before her timber
- The sea's coin
- Silver — found only in wrecks, banked in the Shipyard's coffer, spent on crew, upgrades and salvage
- Who is out there
- Every captain on the shard, on one shared ocean, with the monster fleet, the pirate crews and The Ferryman
- What it pays
- Silver, crew, ship upgrades, ability deeds, Wreckage, shot and Special Loot — no gold and no gems
Your first voyage
- Build a Small Boat at Carpentry, then open the Shipyard from your house's yard and moor her there.
- Cast some cannons and shot at the Shipyard's Foundry — a cannon is 200 ingots of one metal, and shot is 4 balls to an Iron Ingot — and mount the guns on her gun deck.
- Load shot aboard, stow some plain Wood planks as timber for mending at sea, and — once you have crew — cooked fish in her galley.
- Press Set Sail, choose the flag you will fly for the voyage, and take the helm. A short tour walks you round everything the first time.
- Sink monster ships, sail over their strongboxes, and bring the plunder home: the hold only comes ashore when she docks at home.
The sea pays its own way and nothing else. There is NO Virtue XP and NO Facet XP from anything at sea — a sinking pays crew XP, Silver and plunder. What you bring home is what you earned.
A ship that sinks is never lost, and her crew are always fished out safe. What goes down is her hold — every scrap of plunder, her Wreckage, timber, shot and galley. She lies on the seabed at her berth until you pay the salvors in Silver, and comes back up at 20% hull for the dock to mend.
