Harvesting
Camping
Camping is the only harvesting skill you do not start â it rides along on your fighting. Kill something with a skinning knife active and you take the hide, and hides are what Tailoring turns into bandages, bags, cloaks and the tackle a tamer needs. Anyone who fights is already halfway to a leather supply and usually doesn't know it.
Hides, by quality
Which hide you take is decided by your Camping skill. How MUCH of it comes off is decided by what you killed. Black Leather needs 110 effective skill: your own skill plus the bonus of the tool in your hand and any band. Raw skill stops at 100, so on skill alone a Grandmaster's draw ends at Valorite Leather â the Share at GM column â and the last column is the draw once gear has made up the difference.
| Skill | Yields | Share at GM | Share at 110 effective |
|---|---|---|---|
| No requirement | 82.0% | 81.9% | |
| 65.0 | 4.0% | 4.0% | |
| 70.0 | 3.5% | 3.5% | |
| 75.0 | 3.0% | 3.0% | |
| 80.0 | 2.5% | 2.5% | |
| 85.0 | 2.0% | 2.0% | |
| 90.0 | 1.5% | 1.5% | |
| 95.0 | 1.0% | 1.0% | |
| 99.0 | 0.5% | 0.5% | |

Training needs a tough enough kill
Camping is the one harvesting skill with a floor on WHAT you kill, not just how often. Past each rung below, easier creatures stop teaching you anything â this is why a Grandmaster miner can skin rats all day at 84 and never reach 85.
| Once your Camping reaches | You only gain from |
|---|---|
| Any skill | Anything you can kill |
| 65.0 | Easy creatures or tougher |
| 70.0 | Moderate creatures or tougher |
| 75.0 | Challenging creatures or tougher |
| 80.0 | Tough creatures or tougher |
| 85.0 | Dangerous creatures or tougher |
| 90.0 | Deadly creatures or tougher |
| 95.0 | Lethal creatures or tougher |
| 99.0 | Legendary creatures or tougher |
Skinning knives
A knife has to be made active before Camping will run. A better one lasts longer, takes richer hides (see above), and from Bronze up adds to your Camping when the hide is picked.

Rares
Five yard pieces found only by working this skill. Any kill you skin can turn one up, whether you fight it yourself, in a party or while logged out. Each stands in your yard or your house, carries its own story on its tooltip, and trades like any other item.
| Piece | Its story |
|---|---|
| A hide laced into a frame of ash poles, scraped, salted and stretched until it rang like a drum. The skinner who made it took a whole season to work out what the animal had been. When she finally did, she decided not to tell anybody. | |
| A ring of hearthstones carried out of Destard around a fire nobody has fed in eleven years. It gives off honest heat and cooks a fair rabbit, and it throws no smoke whatsoever â which, the old hands say, is the part worth worrying about. | |
| Oiled canvas on two poles, pitched to take the wind on its back. The trapper who slept under it for thirty winters died in a feather bed in Yew and complained about the mattress to the end. He left the lean-to to whoever would promise to keep it pitched. | |
| A great spread of antlers on a post, from a stag the hunters of the southern pastures chased for nine seasons and never caught. It died of old age in a clearing, and the skinner who found it had the decency to say so. Every tine is still on it; that stag was not the sort to lose a fight. | |
| A drake's skull on a hunting pole, hung with bone beads, the way the old skinning camps outside Destard marked a site as taken. Anything with scales gives it a wide berth. Anything without scales has learned to do the same by watching. |
